Homemade Pita Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g of flour

  • 300ml of warm water

  • 1 packet of active dry yeast (7g)

  • 1 teaspoon of sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it rest for 10 minutes until the mixture is frothy.

  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 to 2 hours, until it doubles in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 250°C (482°F) with a baking sheet inside.

  6. Divide the dough into small balls (about 8). Flatten each ball with a rolling pin to form circles about 1 cm thick.

  7. Place the dough circles on the hot baking sheet and bake for 5 to 7 minutes, until they puff up and are lightly golden.

  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
